Given the number of years Gecko Projects has been in business, and the sadly the number of illegitmate contractors we have rescued many customers from; we’ve learned that a warranty is only as good as the person whom writes it. Just because it’s in print, doesn’t mean you’re covered. We have 1 simple recommendation to all potential customers. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

• How long has the contractor you’ve been dealing with been in business?
• Check out their reivews on line. Are there any reports of the contractor not completing a project to satisfaction, or standing by their work?
• Are they a ‘Bonded Prepaid Contractor’ registered with the Government of Alberta?
• Does their Warrany sound too good to be true?

There are a lot of things that can fail over time with a garage, renovation, or deck/fence project that will be of no fault to the contractor or trades person completing the work. The more projects a construction company completes in a year, the larger the liability for service issues. Thus, it’s important to provide a reasonable warranty that will protect both the customer and the business. We’re of the opinion if someone is offering a blanket 10, or 20 + year warranty, these are merely words, and will not translate into decades of coverage for every issue you encounter with your project. After nearly 2 decades working in the construction industry we’ve landed on and maintained a 5 year warranty on all our projects.

We will provide a detailed written warranty for your specific project, but we believe 5 years is the right number. Manufacturer warrantys still apply. Building materials we use have warranties ranging from 1 year to lifetime. Our 5 year warranty is a warranty on the ‘labour’. If something happens within 5 years of your build, we’ll provide the labour (and materails) to make it right. Most home builders will offer 1 year warranty on all their builds, but we don’t believe this is sufficient. We have strict quality controls, work with only the best trades whom share our commitment to providing quality work, and thus we can offer a little more. We use the Alberta New Home Warranty as a guideline in all scenarios and have never left a customer stranded.
